2021 Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard Reissue
Maestro Vibrola • Murphy Lab Heavy Aged • Faded Cherry • 3,3 kg
Sucht man hier vergeblich.
Rock'n'Roll in seiner reinsten Form!

2021 Gibson Custom Shop 1964 SG Standard Reissue
Maestro Vibrola • Murphy Lab Heavy Aged • Faded Cherry • 3.3 kg
This SG captures the pure magic of the early Sixties!
Once again, the Murphy Lab has delivered a true masterpiece here:
The weathered Cherry finish and fine checking feel so smooth and broken-in, as if this instrument had spent the last 60 years on stages around the world.
An SG that might very well have your bandmates asking in disbelief:
“Is this a real ’64?”
Of course, the answer is no. And that is precisely where its great strength lies.
For a fraction of what a genuine vintage original would cost today, you get a reissue that faithfully captures the character of the legendary “Solid Guitar.”
Visually, physically and above all dynamically, it comes remarkably close to the original examples, making the line between yesterday and today almost disappear.
And now to the most important part of a great SG:
The sound.
Wirey. Woody. Gritty. Snappy.
At just 3.3 kg, this SG is an absolute weapon.
It hangs perfectly balanced on the strap and delivers exactly what made this body style world famous: lightning-fast, ultra-direct attack, growling mids that cut through any mix, and an open, woody string response.
The unpotted Alnico III Custombuckers capture that legendary, percussive SG bite perfectly without ever becoming harsh or shrill.
And that dreaded “muddiness” in the bass? Nowhere to be found here.
That’s exactly how a great SG should sound.
The Sobrich Verdict:
It remains something of a mystery why Murphy Lab instruments with each level of aging not only feel increasingly authentic, but also seem remarkably resonant and broken-in.
Maybe it’s the finish, maybe it’s the treatment as a whole – in the end, it really doesn’t matter.
What matters is what happens when you pick it up.
This ’64 Reissue has attack, mojo and that raw, unrefined character you look for in a great SG.
Rock ’n’ Roll in its purest form!
