Wer schon viele Custom Shop Strats in der Hand hatte, kennt das Spiel:

Die meisten sind sehr gut.

Einige sind sehr, sehr gut.

Und ganz selten erwischt man eine, bei der man nach den ersten zwei Akkorden innerlich nur noch denkt:

„Oh oh… das könnte teuer werden.“

Und genau so eine Strat ist diese hier.

Trocken gespielt ist die Gitarre bereits absurd resonant. Sie schwingt was das Zeug hält, reagiert unglaublich direkt und hat genau diesen blubberigen, lebendigen 60‘s Surf Ton, den man sich von einer Rosewood Strat wünscht. Manche Gitarren klingen, als würden sie arbeiten müssen — diese hier klingt eher so, als hätte sie einfach Bock auf alles was man auf ihr spielt!

Besonders beeindruckend:

Die Dynamik.

Die Gitarre reagiert brutal direkt auf Anschlag und Volume-Regelung. Man hat permanent das Gefühl, dass zwischen Händen und Verstärker praktisch nichts mehr dazwischenliegt.

Die handwound Poblano Pickups liefern perlige Höhen, straffe Mitten, saftige Bässe und genau die richtige Portion Extra-Schub gegenüber klassischen 60s Pickups. Mehr Autorität, mehr Fleisch, aber weiterhin komplett offen und dynamisch.

Clean klingt die Strat riesig, dreidimensional und federnd. Mit leichtem Gain entwickelt sie dieses süchtig machende „knurrige“ Strat-Verhalten, bei dem jeder Ton lebendig bleibt und Akkorde trotzdem komplett transparent wirken.

Dazu kommt die verbaute Gilmour Mod, mit der sich der Neck Pickup zusätzlich aktivieren lässt. Bedeutet:

Bridge + Neck.

Alle drei Pickups gleichzeitig.

Noch mehr dieser Sounds, bei denen man plötzlich eine halbe Stunde länger spielt als eigentlich geplant war.

Und die Optik?

Ganz gefährlich.

Das wunderschöne Aged Olympic White in Kombination mit dem spektakulären AAA Flame Maple Neck und dem selektierten dunklen AAA Flat Lam Rosewood Board sieht einfach unfassbar gut aus. Genau diese Mischung aus leicht vergilbtem Weiß, dunklem Rosewood und „greenish“-Pickguard sorgt für perfekten Pre-CBS-Vibe, ohne künstlich oder übertrieben zu wirken.

Man ertappt sich immer wieder dabei, sie nochmal anzuschauen, obwohl sie längst wieder an der Wand hängt.

Das 59 Esquire “C” Neck Profile ist ebenfalls ein Volltreffer: angenehm voll, super organisch in der Hand und zusammen mit dem 9,5" Radius und den Jumbo Bünden einfach super komfortabel spielbar.

Und dann dieses Gewicht: nur 3,27 kg!

Anyone who has played a lot of Custom Shop Strats knows the drill:

Most of them are very good.

Some are extremely good.

And every now and then, you come across one where after the first two chords you immediately think:

“Uh oh… this could get expensive.”

And this is exactly one of those Strats.

Even unplugged, the guitar is absurdly resonant. It rings and vibrates like crazy, responds incredibly fast and has exactly that bubbly, lively 60s surf tone you hope for from a great rosewood-board Strat. Some guitars sound like they have to work for it — this one sounds more like it’s simply excited about everything you play on it.

Particularly impressive:

The dynamics.

The guitar reacts brutally direct to pick attack and volume changes. It constantly feels like there’s practically nothing between your hands and the amp.

The handwound Poblano pickups deliver sparkling highs, tight mids, juicy lows and exactly the right amount of extra push compared to traditional 60s pickups. More authority, more body — while still remaining completely open and dynamic.

Clean tones are huge, three-dimensional and elastic. Add a bit of gain and the guitar develops this addictive slightly growling Strat character where every single note stays alive while chords still remain perfectly transparent.

On top of that, the guitar features a Gilmour Mod, allowing the neck pickup to be activated additionally in any switch position. Meaning:

Bridge + Neck.

All three pickups simultaneously.

Even more of those sounds that somehow make you play for another half hour longer than originally planned.

And the looks?

Dangerous.

The beautiful Aged Olympic White finish combined with the spectacular AAA flame maple neck and the selected dark AAA flat lam rosewood board simply looks stunning. Exactly this combination of lightly yellowed white, dark rosewood and the slightly greenish pickguard creates the perfect Pre-CBS vibe without ever feeling artificial or overdone.

You constantly catch yourself looking at it again, even though it’s already hanging back on the wall.

The 1959 Esquire “C” neck profile is another absolute highlight: nicely full, super organic in the hand and incredibly comfortable to play together with the 9.5" radius and jumbo frets.

And then there’s the weight:

Only 3.27 kg / 7.21 lbs.
