Wer sich schon einmal intensiver mit hochwertigen Akustikgitarren beschäftigt hat, wird an Santa Cruz kaum vorbeigekommen sein.

Die kleine Manufaktur aus Kalifornien genießt seit Jahrzehnten einen hervorragenden Ruf. Nicht, weil sie möglichst viele Gitarren baut, sondern weil ihre Instrumente unter Kennern zum Besten gehören, was der Akustikmarkt zu bieten hat.

Die RS orientiert sich an den klassischen Round-Shoulder-Dreadnoughts der 40er und 50er Jahre, bringt dabei aber ihren ganz eigenen Charakter mit.

Sie klingt trocken, direkt und wunderbar ausgewogen. Die Bässe bleiben straff, die Mitten sorgen für ordentlich Substanz und die Höhen lösen sauber auf, ohne jemals scharf zu wirken. Ganz egal ob kräftiges Strumming oder filigranes Fingerpicking – die RS fühlt sich in beiden Welten zuhause.

Mit gerade einmal 1800g ist sie außerdem erstaunlich leicht gebaut. Genau das merkt man vom ersten Akkord an. Sie resoniert einfach fantastisch, bietet endloses Sustain, spricht unglaublich schnell an und vermittelt dieses direkte, selbsverständliche Spielgefühl, das man bei handgebauten Gitarren dieser Klasse einfach erwartet.

Optisch hält sie sich angenehm zurück. Das klassische Sunburst und das dezente Tortoise-Binding passen hervorragend zur schlichten Ausstattung und macht die RS zu einer Gitarre, die vermutlich auch in zwanzig Jahren noch genauso gut aussieht wie heute.

Diese Gitarre ist wie ein guter alter Kumpel.

Sie drängt sich nie in den Vordergrund, ist aber immer da, wenn man sie braucht. Vertraut vom ersten Moment an und eine dieser Gitarren, die man immer wieder ganz selbstverständlich in die Hand nimmt.

Anyone who has ever taken a closer look at high-end acoustic guitars will hardly have missed Santa Cruz.
The small shop from California has enjoyed an outstanding reputation for decades. Not because they build as many guitars as possible, but because their instruments are considered by connoisseurs to be among the very best the acoustic market has to offer.

The RS is inspired by the classic round-shoulder dreadnoughts of the '40s and '50s, but brings its very own character to the table.
It sounds dry, direct, and wonderfully balanced. The bass remains tight, the mids provide plenty of substance, and the highs resolve cleanly without ever sounding harsh. Whether it is heavy strumming or intricate fingerpicking – the RS feels right at home in both worlds.

Weighing in at just 1800g, it is also surprisingly lightweight. You can feel exactly that from the very first chord. It resonates phenomenally, offers endless sustain, responds incredibly fast, and delivers that direct, natural playing feel you simply expect from a handmade guitar of this caliber.
